Composite structural panels that were popular in mid-20th-century modern architecture; a fire-resistant insulation board that was surfaced with asbestos cement. Comprises a sandwich of materials: at the core a thick layer of Celotexinsulating fiberboard made from laminated bagasse (sugarcane waste); facings of thin sheets of asbestos-cement; and a waterproof vapor-resistant bituminous adhesive. The material was manufactured by the Celotex Corporation and served as a complete wall or roof unit, providing structural strength, insulation, and both interior and exterior finishes.
