Definición
Saa paper is a traditional handmade mulberry bark paper found across Mainland Southeast Asia, now also produced by machine. Historically, it served practical purposes such as wrapping opium in the Golden Triangle and recording Buddhist texts and folk literature in Shan manuscripts, with traditional writing done using fern pens and soot-based ink. In Laos, it remains integral to manuscript traditions, including phap sa folding-books and phap hua bound books.
