Definición

Refers to the art and cultural style of the Gaya Confederacy, which was centered in the southern part of the Korean Peninsula from the 1st century BCE to 562 CE. The Gaya Confederacy was formed by the twelve polities of Byeonhan, including Geumgwan Gaya in the Gimhae, Ara Gaya in Haman, Daegaya in Goryeong, Sogaya in Goseong, Seongsan Gaya in Seongju, and Goryeong Gaya in former Hamchang region. The confederacy was dominated by Geumgwan Gaya before 400 CE and Daegaya thereafter. Located along the western side of the Nakdonggang River, Gaya grew through exchanges with Nangnang (Ch. Lelang), China, and Japan. It was noted for its advanced ironworking. Bluish-gray high-fired pottery was produced, including a wide range of figurative forms such as warriors on horseback, boats, houses, and birds. Gaya and the Three Kingdoms all transmitted ceramic technologies to Japan, influencing the development of Haji ware and Sue ware.
