Definición

Refers to the style of white porcelain wares produced during the Goryeo Dynasty (918–1392). Though made in smaller quantities than celadon in this era, their forms and types generally paralleled celadon development. Bodies are whitish and glazes often show a faint bluish tint, resembling Chinese qingbai ware. Produced starting around the 10th century in the central region of Korea, Goryeo white porcelain was mainly made in Gangjin and Buan during the 12th and 13th centuries. Inlaid decoration was sometimes employed. It was also produced in areas such as Yanggu in Gangwon-do (province) and the Mt. Gwanaksan area in Seoul. Goryeo-era white porcelain was relatively soft-bodied compared to the hard-paste porcelain of the Joseon Dynasty. Vessels such as a bowl with the inscription of "the 24th year of the Hongmu era" demonstrate the characteristics of white porcelain in the late 14th century.
