Definición

Refers to the earliest style of court ceramics created at Usan-ri in Gwangju, Gyeonggi-do (province). Initially producing tribute wares prior to the establishment of the official court kiln system, the Usan-ri site later specialized in royal wares. Pieces in this style bear incised inscriptions of Chinese characters such as those denoting heaven, earth, black, and yellow that are carved in fine lines engraved through the glaze at the interior of the foot. This inscription technique set the standard for later official court kiln practices during the Joseon Dynasty.
