Definición

Refers to a white porcelain style from the official court kilns of the mid-Joseon period produced in the 17th century at the kilns at Seondong-ri in Gwangju, Gyeonggi-do (province). Pieces are often inscribed with cyclical year dates and characters denoting left or right, distinguishing them from earlier wares. Cobalt pigment was rarely used during this period. Iron-painted designs predominated instead, with motifs including dragons among clouds and plum-and-bamboo designs. Small quantities of celadon were also manufactured.
