Definición
Refers to earthenware manufactories in Korea during the Joseon Dynasty (1392â1910). The term "so" in âdogiso” originated from a local administrative unit where craft goods were produced in the Goryeo period. In the Joseon era, it denoted manufactories producing stoneware and buncheong sagi (buncheong ware). "Sejong sillok jiriji” (Geographical Records of the Annals of King Sejong, 1454) recorded 139 jagiso (porcelain manufactories) and 185 dogiso, along with their locations and quality rankings. This was part of the governmentâs efforts to rationalize ceramic production nationwide and efficiently collect ceramic wares as tribute. With the official court kilns known as the bunwon beginning full-scale production of porcelain for royal use in the latter half of the 15th century, the number of regional porcelain and earthenware manufactories rapidly declined.
