Definición
Refers to a type of jar used to contain a newborn's placenta for burial. In Korea, they were used primarily by the royal family and the sadaebu (scholar-official) class during the Joseon Dynasty. Known in Korean as "taeong" or "taeho," placenta jars usually consist of two vessels of different sizes, an inner jar and an outer jar. They were produced in celadon, buncheong sagi (buncheong ware), and white porcelain. One distinctive feature is the small lugs attached to the shoulders and the lid, allowing the jars to be tied securely for sealing and the protection of the placenta.
