Definición
Refers to a horizontally elongated vessel used for storing liquids such as liquor or water. Ceramic examples were made by forming a cylindrical body, like a bottle or jar, and attaching a spout on the side to create a lateral orientation. An oval or rectangular foot was often separately attached, though some examples lack a foot. They were produced mainly in the first half of the Joseon period, with buncheong sagi (buncheong ware) being the most common type. In the 15th century they were called "jangbon," but from the late 18th century onward the name "janggun" became more widely used. Large wooden versions were later made for carrying purposes owing to the aptness of the form for transport.
