Definición

Refers to iron-painted buncheong sagi (buncheong ware) produced during the Joseon Dynasty at the kilns in Hakbong-ri on Mt. Gyeryongsan, Chungcheongnam-do Province. These kilns were active mainly between the 15th century and the first half of the 16th, producing stamped and inlaid buncheong sagi along with white porcelain. Iron-painted wares predominated from the late-15th century onward and came to characterize Gyeryongsan ceramics. These vessels were coated with white slip and decorated with iron pigment using motifs such as fish, flowers, and ruyi heads. Because this style was strongly associated with Hakbong-ri, iron-painted buncheong ware itself came to be called “Gyeryongsan buncheong” during the Japanese colonial era.
