Definición
Refers to earthenware vessels coated with an ash glaze, widely used for storing grain, water, alcohol, and condiments. Originally simply denoting large jars, the term came to designate ash-glazed jars in particular after the late 19th century and in the first half of the 20th century. With the increased production of ash-glazed earthenware during this period in a wide variety of forms beyond jars, the term expanded to encompass ash-glazed vessels and craft objects in general.
