Definición

A technique commonly used in microbiology that makes it possible to directly visualize whole cells in a sample by using specific fluorescently labeled probes. The targets of these probes are the DNA or RNA molecules. In cultural heritage conservation, the technique has been used to identify the presence of microorganisms involved in biodeterioration processes that are not noticeable to the naked eye.
