Andira inermis (species)
Definición
Species of medium-sized tree (35 feet in height) having a smooth gray bark, extending from southern Mexico through Central America to Peru, Bolivia, and Brazil. It has also been introduced to the Caribbean, the Antilles, Florida, and Africa. The tree is valued for its attractively variegated lumber and the bark, which is used as a narcotic, laxative, and insecticide. The tree has many names due to its wide distribution and multiple uses. The wood of the angelin was at first thought to belong to the partridge pea, thus the Caribbean French name for the partridge pea, bois perdrix, was misinterpreted as partridge wood.
